WHAT IN THE WORLD IS MAMA?

MAMA is the Movement of Aleatoric Modern Artists, the 21st century answer to the early 1900's art movement known as DADA.  Discover a new breed
of contemporary artists and learn about the early practitioners of the "chance" theory.  Employed throughout history to create unique and compelling
works by artists you know and love,  the aleatoric methods are making a resurgence thanks to the modern techniques used by a handful of rising stars
who emulate these great artists of the past. Our aim is to bring together the best of these new aleatoric artists from around the world and promote the
exchange of ideas, techniques and philosophies about art and artists in the 21st Century. This page will inform artists and art lovers of all that is
happening on the international scene with our featured artists on AleatoricArt.com.  Gallery exhibitions, artist receptions and news and reviews about
ongoing shows will be updated often on this unique site showcasing the best modern artists from around the globe.

Howard Pugh — The scars of a battle between man and his environment

The patterns and mutations arising from natures inevitable erosion, destruction, and attrition of man’s
attempts at glossing-over, or imposing uniformity upon, the chaos that is the natural order of our world.
This is where Howard Pugh finds his expression. Like most Aleatoric visions, nature plays a major role.
But this artist captures the dramatic interplay that results when man’s interference with natural chaos is
thwarted or in the process of being reclaimed by the elements. A section of oxidized, or weather worn,
corrugated steel wall. Semi-uniform cracking patterns in weathered paint, Details of abrasion patterns,
or dendrites forming in the fissures of a shattered surface. All these things are candidates for
exploitation as art. Howard Pugh’s work compellingly suggests the tension created by the dichotomy
between man’s desire to control his environment and natures desire to return it to its original state of
peaceful chaos; the disorder that prevails after the dust settles and all is at rest.

Martin Waugh was invited to Buenos Aires, Argentina by Coca Cola to help in a pro-
duct launch for their Aquarius (by Cepita) fruit drink. The event included an exhibition of nine of Martin's works, plus
three custom pieces created for the event. The three pieces were commissioned to incorporate the three flavors of
the beverage: apple, pear, and grapefruit. Hosted by Horacio Kabak, Martin spoke to 60 journalists about his work
and its connection to water.
Reed Ghazala/Requiem for a Radio
In the Requiem Project a small plastic transistor radio was transformed into a number of globular sections. The radio was
forcibly pried apart, crushed in an electronic grinder, melted into a disc and, lastly, sawed into forty small pieces. Each of the
four movements of this modern requiem are constructed exclusively from the sounds produced by one of these four different
actions. Save but a handful, the molten bodies resultant of these acts were sent around the world with the initial distribution
of this recording / sculpture / conceptual art project. The Kyrie, Dies Irae, Sanctus and Agnus Dei are each set in this
Requiem Mass of music concrete. Includes elaborate program notes and full-color artwork throughout.  (Realization,

GALLERY WEBSITE
On 9 August the Stroganov Palace of the Russian Museum opens the Nature is a Great Magician! exhibition. The
show comprises 74 colour photographs by Alex Volborth, a professor of geology, renowned expert in geochemistry,
mineralogy and analytics (Dayton, Montana, USA). After the retirement Alex Volborth remembered that there are a lot
of interesting views and odd surfaces seen on rocks, when he worked as a geologist. There are a lot of views in the
world that remind us of paintings by Mikhail Vrubel, Marc Chagall, Wassily Kandinsky, Gustav Klimt, Salvador Dalí,
Edvard Munch, sculpture and architecture. The aim of the exhibition is to show the beauty, variety and richness of
natural representations found by the scientist in caves and on wind-worn rocks in the Mojave desert in southern
Nevada. Travelling during three years he took 6000 photographs of these places. Some photographs are given the
titles in honour of renowned photographers, philosophers, writers and book characters. This is the first ever
comprehensive exhibition of photographs-associations by Alex Volborth in Russia.

Aleatoric Art, a new web-based not-for-profit gallery featuring artists whose
practice blends new-age ritual with old-fashioned automatism is emanating from
Houston. The site's author, J. Coleman Miller, says the site "began as a way for me
to catalog artists who deal with chance methods in composition" and will be updated
twice yearly. He invites submissions from artists who think they fit it's criteria. From
Zoran Zugic's surrealist fantasies to Mike Bloom's abstract watercolor blots, the spirit
of Arp, Ernst and Cage is alive and kicking, all against a background music of gentle
waterfalls.
Look for the new book, Aleatoric Artists of the 21st Century with text by Ray Cabarga coming
soon. One hundred pages of crisp artwork and the tounge in cheek humor of AleatoricArt's
resident writer and art critic. This book has been called "sumptuous" and "a laptop experience" by
a couple of editors that have seen it. We are producing a limited number of pre-publication proofs
that can be purchased online by clicking the button below. Buy now and recieve free shipping!

the time of his childhood, a voyage that culminated in his collection of beautiful and wonderous
photographs of the earth's geological formations. Read more about our friend and the first member of
